II. The Republic of Moldova at the World Expo 2010 - Shanghai, China

In 2010,  the Republic of Moldova will take part in a World Expo for the second time; the first time Moldova participated in a World Exhibition  in 2000, in Hannover, Germany.

On November 14, 2006, the Government of the Republic approved the participation of Moldova at this global event.  This decision has been made public  during the first Meeting of representatives of participating countries at World Expo 2010, held on November 15-16, 2006.

Mr. Valeriu Lazar, vice-prime-minister of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Moldova, has been appointed General Commissioner of Section Moldova for World Expo 2010.

On October 15, 2008, in Shanghai, China, the signing ceremony of the Contract of participation of the Republic of Moldova at the World Exhibition 2010 took place. On behalf of the Republic of Moldova, the Contract was signed by Mr. Iacob Timciuc, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to China. On behalf of the Expo organizers, the document has been signed by Mr. Hong Hao, director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination and by Mr. Hua Junduo, China's Commissioner General for World Expo 2010.

In April 2009, the Government of the Republic of Moldova appointed, by a special decision, the International Exhibition Centre Moldexpo as the economic agent in charge with the organization and operation of the national stand of Moldova at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

The slogan of the national stand of Moldova at the Expo will be My City Is Your City. The most remarkable achievements and projects of our country will be exhibited at the stand.

The participation of Moldova at an international exhibition of such a scale and prestige will provide unique opportunities to establish fruitful economic relations and promote our country.

The goals of the Republic of Moldova at World Expo 2010 are:  

1. to boost economic, scientific, commercial and investment collaboration with the countries of the world;
2. to consolidate the image of Moldova on international level and, in particular, in the Eastern Asia;
3. to develop a closer cooperation with China and other countries;
4. to promote the economic, scientific and cultural potential of the country on external markets;
5. to promote Moldovan products worldwide;
6. to promote Moldovan tourism;
7. to present the cultural heritage, traditions and customs of our country.
